Summer Term
Dear Parent,
Welcome back to the start of the summer term. I hope you all had a good Easter break.
As you know, End of KS1 tests and tasks will be taking place this term. As far as possible in Y2, we try to incorporate these into our normal classroom routine and the children take it all in their stride. The assessments will take place throughout the month of May and it is important that your child is in school during this time. Our work in other curriculum areas will continue as normal and here is a brief summary of what your child will be learning this term.
English
Speaking and Listening:presenting information; recalling the key points of a talk
Reading:different stories by the same author; poetry that plays with language, information books
Writing:sustained stories; riddles, jokes and sentences that play with language; using headings and sub-headings in non-fiction texts
Mathematics
Number:daily mental maths; solving mathematical problems using appropriate methods; patterns and relationships in numbers; developing mathematical vocabulary, simple algebra, multiplication & division, simple fractions
Space & Shape: reading the time, measuring in millilitre and litre
Data Handling:organising and interpreting tables and graphs
Science
Plants & Animals; Forces
ICT
Getting creative: still and moving images, written word
History
The Great Fire of London
Geography
A contrasting locality in the UK – The isle of Coll
Music (with Mrs. Wright)
Revise all sol-fa and hand signs, singing in unison and two parts, musical composition using tuned and untuned instruments
