We have been looking at how people from other societies have been coming to settle in Britain for a long time. We studied the invasion and settlement of the Romans in Britain. As part of this study we visited Verulamium in St. Albans.
On Tuesday 12th March we went ot the Unicorn Theatre in London to see a play called '1001 Nights'. The play was a modern adaptation of the classic '1001 Nights' also known as The Arabian Tales. The story is about a young girl called Shahrazad, and her father, who are forced to move to London because of the war. While in London the bookish Shahrazad transports her new friened Fred to an imagined world of Kings, demons, princes and viziers through fantastical flights of story telling.
In the classroom we explored the plot, characters and structure of the story 'The Three Princes and the Princess'. This was one of many wonderful tales told in the play by the young girl Shahrazad. We then wrote our own stories retelling of this story.
The Key Stage 1 children took part in a Drama Workshop where they learnt how to move and some acting techniques.
Year 5 had an amazing day dressed and acting as Victorian children. They visited the British School in Hitchin where they sampled lessons and learnt about the life of a Victorian child.
